Things to do in Bodrum

Bodrum

Bodrum is a popular holiday choice that has some of the best beaches in the world, comfortable hotels and a good mix of attractions. These include several bathhouses, which are an integral piece of Turkish culture, the fifteenth-century Castle of St Peter and Museum of Underwater Archaeology for visitors interested in the regions historical significance and a state-of-the-art marina with many impressive amenities

.

The weather is gorgeous from April to September, which is the main tourist season, and during July and August it is often as hot as the mid-thirties. If, by April, you haven't booked a getaway, you can always arrange a last minute holiday, as you can be just about certain of perfect weather. If you’re taking a family holiday, it’s worth noting that there is a cooling wind called ‘the Meltemi’ which can make you feel as though you can stay out in the heat for longer, so make sure you have plenty of sun cream for everyone, but especially for children. In Bodrum, it’s likely that you’ll spend a lot of time on the beach; which one you choose depends on what you want from your holiday. If you’re looking for a lively beach with water sports available, you should head to Gumbet’s long beach, which is edged with bars, restaurants and hotels which offer free use of both sun beds and parasols for customers as long as they’re still buying drinks. That sounds like a good excuse for enjoying a glass of wine.

Some people would prefer to lounge in the sun, rather than jet-skiing or diving and Bodrum has several resorts that would suit them perfectly. Not far from Gumbet is Bitez, which is scented by the mandarin trees that are all over the area. The beach is very peaceful, whilst still being generously served by bars, restaurants and cafés. Although there are areas of shingle as well as sand, it’s a great beach for families as it doesn’t get too busy for children to be able to run around and there are regular boat-trips to nearby coves. The town of Bitez retains an old-fashioned character, with an authentic Turkish teahouse and shops that stock a good range of souvenirs, as well as the ubiquitous bars and restaurants

.

Even if your package is all inclusive, it’s worth frequenting the restaurants in Bodrum, because Turkish food has a well-deserved reputation for being spicy and delicious. Cuisine of other countries is easy to come by as well; Uncles Restaurant in Turgutreis, for example, is a very popular establishment that sells Chinese, British and Mexican food in addition to authentic Turkish fare. Whichever you choose, it will be made using fresh produce and you can wash it down with a glass of the local wine, Raki. It’s a child-friendly place and many customers try to time their visit so they can sit on the terraces and watch the sun as it sets over the sea.

As Bodrum has a wide range of accommodation, from the fabulous Family Belvedere Hotel in Yalikavak, with room-service, an excellently reviewed restaurant and great on-site entertainment, to the many apartment complexes throughout the region. While the apartments are a cheap option if you intend to use your accommodation as a base, you can often arrange better deals by choosing one of the all-inclusive offers and eating at least two of your meals at the hotel; this also allows you to plan more accurately how much you will spend.

Even if you are eating at the hotel most of the time, you will still have plenty of opportunities to explore Bodrum. In Bodrum Town, itself, you can visit the famous castle or time your visit to coincide with one of its many festivals. In May, you can enjoy festivals dedicated to jazz and diving. At the free jazz festival, you can enjoy concerts from local and international artists. starting at sunset, which is at around 7:30. At Bodrum’s festivals, whether they’re a celebration of ballet, cycling or sailing, there are always other forms of entertainment, including live music, street performances and dancing as well as plenty of food on offer. In late August or September, Altinkum hosts the Didim Peace Festival, which promotes the friendship between the Turkish and the Greeks; this features a foot race, boat racing and dancing and ends with a concert on the beach, illuminated by row upon row of of ‘peace torches’.

At Jetline, we have been sending countless travellers on their perfect holiday for more than three decades. With a wide range of cheap holidays & late deals to Turkey, you can become another satisfied customer at a lower price than you'd expect. So, why not browse the website now and book the holiday of your dreams to Bodrum.
