Gumbet - For a great beach holidaay

Gumbet offers much for those taking the traditional beach based family holiday, and the area includes the opportunity of learning to scuba dive in the beautiful clear sea, paragliding, snorkelling, banana boat rides and yachting as well as pedalos from the beach, jet ski, windsurfing, boat trips (you are advised to book in advance and not on the beach, which is far more expensive) and water-skiing.

Weather

The weather in Gumbet during the holiday season is typical of the Aegean region, in that it is consistently hot, sunny and ideal for a summer holiday at the beach.

Gumbet Nightlife

Gumbet is known for being vibrant and exciting after dark, which attracts young visitors and families with older children, as the resort comes alive with lasers and neon as the bars, clubs and discos open up along the beach front. Drinks are cheap and the party goes on until dawn.

Eating out in Gumbet

The restaurants in Gumbet offer a wide variety of food from around the world. Of course, the local restaurants offer authentic Turkish cuisine from the familiar kebabs to the local speciality Ot Kavurmasi. But you can also find Chinese, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Mexican and Italian, meaning that everyone is bound to find something to their liking.

Events & Attractions

There is plenty to see and do in the resort, and in the nearby towns. For those interested in a cultural diversion, there is Bodrum Castle which has the Museum of Underwater Archaeology which is dedicated to relics excavated from shipwrecks locally, including at 3400 years, the oldest wreck ever discovered.
The artefacts recovered are on display in 14 galleries and include video displays showing many wrecks being explored.
At the nearby village of Milas, the visitor can find carpets and rugs, handmade and available to buy. Amazingly, a simple, rug may take 3 months to make, yet cost only £150.
Just off the coast is the Greek island of Kos, and day trips by boats can be arranged for around £15.
Shopping is good in Gumbet, but it is recommended that you go prepared to haggle, and haggle hard. Rather like a scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian, the traders will expect it and will enjoy you trying to drive the hardest bargain for bags, clothes, carpets, gold and other metal items. The markets are open from 6am to the early hours of the next morning.

In mid-May, Gumbet hosts a diving festival, organised by the Bodrum Underwater Society. At around the same time, the town hosts the Bodrum Jazz at Sunset, which is held at the marina.
For lovers of the classic arts, there is an International Ballet Festival held in mid-August at Bodrum Castle. Other festivals through the year include those for bikes, film and yachting extravaganzas.
