Things to do in Hurghada

Hurghada

Hurghada - everything you want from a holiday

If you’re worried because you haven’t made plans to go away yet, you should relax. There’s never a bad time to look for a last minute holiday because you can get some fantastic cheap deals that make you feel as though you’re having an expensive holiday without the expense! Hurghada is one destination with something for everybody.

Hurghada for a rain-free holiday

As it has a desert climate, this popular tourist centre, on the Red Sea in Egypt, doesn’t experience rain and is constantly very hot, particularly during July and August, when the average temperatures are around 33 degrees Celsius, although it tends to be more comfortable during the months of December through to February. The high temperatures shouldn’t cause a problem, as long as you take precautions, because holiday-makers in Hurghada spend a lot of time in the water, whether that’s the Red Sea or the luxurious pools that are found in every resort. With a flight length of between five and six hours from the UK, Hurghada offers a very different environment without the arduous travelling times so often associated with exotic holidays.

Wet and wonderful in the desert

Because the former fishing village is now devoted to tourism, there are numerous attractions, including the Red Sea itself! Visitors can enjoy diving, boat trips and swimming or the unusual experience of taking a submarine ride that allows them to get up-close and – almost – personal with the wildlife under the water. Organised snorkelling excursions are available from a number of sites, with participants travelling by boat to enjoy the sights in and around the coral reefs off the coast; Makadi Bay has a particularly good reputation because of the variety of sea-life and the beauty of the delicate reef. As well as being able to enjoy the sea, visitors taking a family holiday should visit some of Hurghada’s many fabulous waterparks.

Even in the intense heat, it could almost be possible to forget that these beautiful water activity centres are in a desert environment, but there are several inland tours that show another side of the area’s culture. Visitors can go into the heart of the Sahara to visit a Bedouin village, where there are donkey and camel rides as well as local forms of entertainment, such as belly-dancing and Egyptian music.

Family-friendly Hurghada

As well as the many attractions in the area, Hurghada has a number of resorts providing special offers; this makes it an excellent holiday destination for families. As the resorts aim to keep their guests onsite, they are very self-contained, offering great all inclusive packages that leave very little need to step outside. Both the Sinbad Aqua Park Hotel and the Titanic Beach and Aqua Park are excellent resorts for children as they feature waterparks as well as a range of sporting opportunities, such as tennis, mini-golf and football. Children can take part in organised, supervised games while their parents explore the resorts’ restaurants and bars. With onsite shopping centres and food to suit all palates, the all inclusive option provides great value for money.

A romantic paradise

It’s inevitable, with its secluded beaches, warm turquoise water and scenery straight from a Rudolph Valentino film, that couples would be attracted by what Hurghada has to offer. Some resorts are more suited to a romantic getaway. For example, the Palm Royale Soma Bay Resort has a ‘wellness area’ with saunas, massages and beauty treatments to relax couples before they head off to one of the 14 bars and restaurants, which serve Asian, Lebanese and Greek cuisine in beautifully decorated surroundings. The accommodation is luxurious, with private balconies in all guest rooms, with some situated at the beach or pool-side, allowing the guests to go straight from their rooms into the water.

For the lone traveller, the nightlife is full and exciting. Whether singles use their hotels as a base and party in the local clubs or stay in a resort with its own entertainment, there are plenty of opportunities to meet others, including some ‘adult-only’ places , such as the Makadi Spa Hotel.

Stay in a luxury hotel

High-quality companies are well-represented here, including such renowned chains as Hilton, Radisson, Intercontinental and Marriott. The Hilton Hurghada Plaza provides the luxury you’d expect from a Hilton, including sea views from all the rooms, a private beach and excellent sports facilities.

If you decide to stay in Hurghada, you should book with a company with specialist knowledge of the area, who can help you find the best options to suit your requirements. When you arrange your holiday via superescapes.co.uk, you can rest assured that, with 35 years of experience, PTS membership and ATOL protection, your exclusive deals and cheap prices won’t be at the expense of quality.
