Things to do in Qawra

Qawra

Qawra is a charming resort located in northern Malta that caters to beach lovers and anyone looking to unwind under the sun less than 3 hours away from the UK. Travellers come here lured by the azure waters of the nearby beaches and by the low-key atmosphere of this Mediterranean resort. But that is not to say that there is no room for entertainment, as Qawra has a lively and sophisticated entertainment scene that complements the quiet charm of this Maltese seaside resort.

When to Go

Malta has a typically Mediterranean weather marked by mild winters and a long shoulder season that runs between May and October. The hottest months are June, July and August, when the temperatures can reach highs of 30°C and every day brings up to 13 hours of sunshine – the perfect conditions for a sun and beach holiday.

Where to Stay

The range of accommodation options in Qawra suits travellers in search of cheap family holidays, who can opt for seafront hotels and holiday villages offering all inclusive packages. There are also several properties catering to couples and offering 4-star amenities in a more secluded environment.

Attractions & Events

Since Qawra is on a small peninsula, visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying the local beach life. The beaches around Qawra cater to all types of travellers, from those looking to relax and do little more than swim and sunbathe to those interested in watersports like jet skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, and scuba diving. Qawra Point is a Blue Flag beach located within walking distance of the town centre, and there are other pretty beaches along the road to Buggiba too.

During the evening all the action is centered around Qawra's promenade, which is lined with cocktail bars, trendy seafront restaurants, and local eateries, offering a lively atmosphere that is also family-friendly.

Qawra's location is perfect for taking day trips around the scenic coastline of northern Malta. Some of the top attractions located within a half and hour drive of Qawra include the walled town of Mdina, Malta's National Aquarium (situated in nearby Buggiba), and the beaches and leisure complex at Popeye Village.

The most widely celebrated event in the area is the St Paul's Bay festival, which is held at the end of July. This celebration lasts for approximately one week and consists of firework displays, live music, and street parades, along with plenty of opportunities to sample traditional Maltese dishes and desserts. The Malta Jazz Festival also takes place in July, and is well worth travelling from Qawra to Valletta to enjoy a night of brilliant music and a convivial atmosphere.
