Porto Colom Holidays

Named in honour of Christopher Columbus, Porto Colom is a beautiful fishing village set inside a deep natural harbour. The village retains an authentic feel, with fishing boats moored around the quay and beautiful pastel-coloured houses overlooking the waterfront. It also offers a lively night life with a range of accommodation options, including family-friendly hotels and adults-only resorts.

When to Go

Regardless of when you visit, Porto Colom and Majorca offer plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. While temperatures start to rise in May, the hottest months are July and August. This is also peak season in Porto Colom and the rest of Majorca. With milder and more comfortable temperatures, winter months are a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Fewer crowds also make it a great escape for mountain biking or hiking. Spring and autumn also offer warm temperatures.

Where to Stay

Until the late nineteenth century, Porto Colom was a major wine port. After phylloxera killed of vines in nearby vineyards, Porto Colom evolved into a tourist destination. A popular choice in the village is the Hotel JS Cape Colom, which offers stunning sea views and a rejuvenating spa. For families, the Hotel JS Es Corso has a large swimming pool, play area and tennis courts. Other top options include the El Vistamar Hotel, the Cecila Aparthotels, and the high-end Hotel BelleVue Belsana.

Attractions & Events

Porto Colom’s most popular beach is Cala Marcal, a Blue Flag beach south of the village. Here you will find soft, fine sands and shallow waters. Snorkelling, diving and swimming are just some of the water sports you can enjoy off the coast of Porto Colom. There are also beaches close to the harbour and along the peninsula overlooking Porto Colom, including S’Arenal Grand and S’Arenal Petit. The nearby beaches of S’Algar to the north and Cala Sa Nau to the south are also great places to get away.

Off the beach, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors in and around Porto Colom. The Mondrago Natural Park features white sand beaches and dramatic cliffs overlooking the pristine turquoise sea. There are several trails along the coastline and wetlands within the park. Close to the park is the picturesque sandstone village of Santanyi. One of the most popular events in Porto Colom is the TriStar Mallorca Triathlon. Held each year in April, the competition attracts 600 participants for a 111-kilometre race and a shorter 55.5-kilometre race. The village also hosts local Mallorcan rock bands during the Rockin’ Matxin Festival in June.<
