Lanzarote Holidays

With temperatures rarely falling below 21°C, Lanzarote is the perfect holiday destination at any time of the year. Lanzarote is located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 120 km off the North African coast, and is the easternmost island in the Canaries.

Renowned for its many and varied sandy beaches which contrast with an amazing volcanic landscape, this captivating island has been a favourite with British Holidaymakers for decades.

The island’s beautiful sandy beaches can be found in a surprising array of colours, from sparkling white, to golden yellow and black. Playa Blanca is one of the cleanest and unspoiled resorts in the Canaries, and many people say it has the finest beach in Lanzarote. Chic boutiques, bars and restaurants offer plenty of opportunity to browse, relax and eat and drink at your leisure. It’s not the liveliest place at night though, so if you’re after plenty of night life, then head for Puerto del Carmen with its abundant bars, restaurants and discos – this is party town!

Close to Puerto del Carmen you’ll find the Rancho Texas Park Western Theme Park, with its Indian Village, themed restaurants and animals including birds of prey, iguanas, crocodiles, armadillos and prairie-dogs.

In the breezy north you’ll find Costa Teguise, which is a favourite resort for windsurfers, and here you’ll also find the Aquapark where you’ll find the greatest water rides imaginable, and the Lanzarote Aquarium, which is the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands, with its enormous collection of marine life all adding up to a fantastic family day out.

Culture & Events

During February and March, Lanzarote celebrates Carnival, and in towns and villages throughout the island, you’ll find parades, with the largest taking place in Arrecife. Colourful costumes, floats, joyful music and the rhythm of drums add to the fun and excitement of Carnival time in Lanzarote.

Weather

At any time of the year, Lanzarote will bathe you in sunshine and warm temperatures. There is very low rainfall, so whichever month suits your travel plans, it’s the perfect holiday destination for you.
The Lanzarote summer, from May to November, is hot and dry, with average temperatures of 23°C to 29°C in August. December to March is winter time, but with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 23°C, you’ll find it ideal for a winter break with warm sunny days, although evenings can be cool.

In August, you can enjoy the major festival of Dia de San Gines which takes place across the island, and which celebrates the island's patron saint. Throughout the year there is a festival or fiesta taking place somewhere on the island, so there is no shortage of fun, colour and entertainment in Lanzarote.

Holidays for everyone

Lanzarote is the year-round holiday destination for all ages, for couples, young or retired, for families with very young children, and families with teenagers, you’ll find the resort, the accommodation, the entertainment, activities, excursions and nightlife to make yours a holiday to remember.

There are lots of theme parks for great family days out, trips to the volcanoes and subterranean lagoons, visits to wineries, and you can even take a camel ride across the desert at the Timafaya National Park, and you’ll be awarded your camel driving license!

If it’s underwater exploration you enjoy, then Lanzarote’s subterranean volcanic landscape is home to abundant marine life, and there are plenty of dive centres catering for all levels of experience.

Take a discovery tour around the mountains, through the national park and the caves. Join a guided walking tour, hire a bike, or take a horse ride to enjoy the island’s stunning scenery.

If you love shopping, then the resorts of Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen offer a wide range of stores, shopping centres, local boutiques where you can buy locally made souvenirs, jewellery, perfumes and aftershaves, electrical items; in fact you name it, you’ll find it here.

Eating and drinking in Lanzarote is an absolute joy. The island’s gastronomy is based on Spanish cooking, but what delights you will encounter when you discover mouthwatering dishes created as with a fusion of Spanish, West African and Latin American influences.

Enjoy colourful spreads of tapas, prime cuts of beef, typical Canarian stews such as conejo, which is a rabbit stew and a local delicacy, endless supplies of fresh caught seafood, such as swordfish, seabass, lobster and mussels, and locally-grown fruit and vegetables.

Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen all offer a wide choice of accommodation in 4* and 5* hotels, providing affordable luxury in delightful settings. You can enjoy flexible board arrangements, self-catering or fully inclusive holidays to suit your needs and budget.
