When to Go

With a mild and temperate climate, Blanes is a great destination for much of the year. Winters are relatively cool, with daytime highs ranging from 13 to 14 degrees. Summers are dry but can be very hot. May to October offers the warmest temperatures, with highs reaching 28 degrees in July and August. The waters off Blanes are at their warmest in July, August and September, although August is typically the most crowded time of the year to visit.

Where to Stay

There are plenty of cheap hotels and inviting resorts to choose from in Blanes, particularly around the Passeig de S'Abanell along the seafront. The S'Abanell area south of Sa Palomera rock has several hotels and is close to the many restaurants, bars and clubs in the town's nightlight centre. Options include the Hotel Horitzó, the Hotel Mar Ski, and the Hotel Pimar and Spa. Travellers looking to splurge should consider the Hotel Santa Maria on Santa Cristina Beach in nearby Lloret de Mar. Another luxury option is five-star Hotel Sant Pere Del Bosc, also in Lloret de Mar. Attractions & Events

The coast of Blanes is the top attraction. The coastline north of the town's port is characterised by small coves and rocky cliffs, while long sandy beaches dominate the south. Blanes Beach between the port and the scenic Sa Palomera rock is the town's main beach with great amenities and facilities, including accessible access and a children's area. Sa Forcanera Cove can be accessed by kayak or on foot. With dramatic cliffs and a small pebbled beach, it is a great place to enjoy time away from the crowds. Other top beaches include S'Abanell Beach, S'Aguia Cove, and Sant Francesc Cove. Despite its growth as a tourist centre, Blanes remains closely tied to its roots. Old traditions such as visiting local vegetable and fish markets remain strong. A visit to one of the town's markets or fish auction is a great way to experience Blanes. Other historic attractions include the 19th-century gothic Cabrera's Palace, the 15th-century Gothic Fountain, Santa Maria's Church, and the mountaintop Sant Joan Castle. Blanes also has several fine examples of Modernist and Noucentisme architecture, including Casa Saladrigas and Can Tordera.
Blanes is home to several beautiful gardens. The De Mar i Murtra botanical gardens is a scenic spot to admire more than 4,000 species of plants. With more than 7,000 different kinds of flowers and other plants, Pinya de Rosa is another garden worth a visit. Where the Tordera River meets the Mediterranean Sea, the Tordera Delta is another pretty option to see the region's natural beauty. Along with a sandy beach, the area is a good place for bird watching. The Tordera Delta is also a good spot to see blue sharks and dolphins. It is also the town's only nudist beach. The Santa Anna festival is celebrates each year during the third or fourth week of July between the 21st and 27th of the month. The eight-day festival coincides with the Concurs de Focs d'Artifici, a major international fireworks competition held during the last full week of July. The event attracts more than 500,000 visitors to Banes, with the final show attracting the largest crowds. Visitors can watch the fireworks from the beach as over 500,000 kilograms of fireworks are used for each country's stunning display. Although not as popular, the traditional feast of Sant Bonòs and Maximià in mid-August is a family-friendly event. Visitors can meander along an 8 kilometre procession with a slice of watermelon and a keepsake as a reward at the end of the walk.
